AHI driver for the AD516 released by Chris Brenner.
Th Sunrize's AD516 has been one of the most interesting ZII audio boards. Unfortunately,
until now, there weren't any drivers of any kind for this card, leaving owners in
need for realtime software with the only option to use Studio16, the application
developed for this hardware by Sunrize and bundled with the product.
Lack of detailed documetation, and the fact that Sunrize left the market,
prevented from taking advantage from more modern non-linear editing software,
developed years after Studio16. Until now.
Chris Brenner just relesed his new excellent AHI driver, avalable on aminet, that now
allows AHI-compatible applications to access the AD516 A/D D/A converters (for
SMPTE support, Studio16 is still the right tool). Several applications have been
already tested and work fine.
Early reports about ProStationAudio and this new
development say that the driver exhibits low-latency, extremely important to
allow using mixing automation and the 30+ realtime DSP effects for ProStationAudio.
More info soon, as they arrive.
To donwload the driver, search for "AD516" on aminet. Info about the developer
are into the driver archive, don't forget to send him feedback.

November 2001: Bars&Pipes MIDI sequencer back in development in Germany.
As many people state they were not aware of this, it's worth a reminder...
The source code for the excellent Bars&Pipes MIDI sequencer was released
last year by its developers. The company, Blue Ribbon, was earlier bought
by Microsoft to operate on different markets.
Alfred J. Faust, from Germany, cleaned the source
code as a start for further development. The first new release, now called
BarsnPipes, was ready in May this year. Current
version is 1.06 (October 2001), enhacements over the original design include
screen mode selection, gadtools requesters, fixes.
The product is made avalable by Alfred as freeware. You can visit his page
and download the software
here.
November 2001: ProStationAudio Titanium, demo update.
New ProStationAudio Titanium demo 5.01 available in
the download section.
- fixed Play Object and Play Region (were routed to the wrong busses resulting in noise)
- correctly loads older format projects, useful for tutorials
- variable bitrate DSP plugins now fully supported
- added "mouse-over" help text for new console buttons
As both the "project format" and "variable bitrate" modifications remove the
chances of possible system crashes, it's strongly recommended to replace the
older demo with the new 5.01 version.
November 2001: ProStationAudio Titanium, demo ready for downloading.
Ready... go! The new ProStationAudio Titanium demo is available in
the download section. The complete version will be available
starting early next week.
October 2001: New ProStationAudio architecture for 2002.
It's ready. The ProStationAudio architecture has been enhanced to make this non-linear
editing software solution for AmigaOS even more powerful. And faster. The new version based on this
design, ProStationAudio Titanium, is ready and will be on sale in a few days.
While Amigas are wonderful systems, their main problem is lack of raw hardware horse-power:
Titanium addresses this problem at design level, using optimizations independent on the
host CPU, so that 68K (060 recommeded), PPC, and emulated 68K hardware benefit.
Major new features include:
Signal path layout: stereo sends/returns
- multiple sends per track, stereo.
- multiple aux busses, stereo.
- multiple DSP inserts for each return bus, stereo.
- returns can be muted and/or soloed.
- plugin sharing among multiple tracks reduces CPU load, with peak acceleration
up to 1500% (when using 15 sends to the same aux bus).
Mixig console layout: 6 master inserts, stereo.
- master DSP inserts have been extended to 6, for increased flexibility.
- using track inserts, multiple sends/returns, and master inserts, now each
track's signal can pass through up to 18 DSP processors.
Faast dsp, the new quick-preview mode
- sustained 200% acceleration on mixing and effects processing, using bitrate reduction
- modifies the bitrate of multiple streams in realtime during disk-streaming,
no need to save audio files at lower bitrates for fast previewing..
- fully transparent, original bitrate restored just before the signals reach the audio output hardware,
providing full compatibility with fixed-rate devices such as external D/A converters over S/P-DIF.
- quality drop is acceptable for most material.
- any previously saved project benefits, no updates needed
- automatically disabled when mastering and/or bouncing tracks, to preserve
always perfect quality on the final work.
- can be toggled on/off in realtime for comparisons
GUI
- the channel bars layout has been optimized to display more tracks at once on screen.
- the screen is public and palette-sharing friendly: use tools like calculators,
notepads, or web browsers to view tutorials, directly on the ProStationAudio screen.
Titanium preserves the tons of features present in current versions: support for
dual graphic cards, dual monitors, two CPU's, realtime operations, mixing automation,
30 DSP plugins, 24bit and MP3 import, read/write access to Amiga, Windows, Mac and
Unix files, more...
Informations on pricing and upgrade options for current users will follow this
week. As usual part of the service, buyers of the previous top version, Millennium, will upgrade
free of charge.
PCI invasion: ProStationAudio on G-Rex 4000 with Terratec audio hardware.
ProStationAudio compatible with
G-Rex PCI busboards by DCE and Terratec PCI audio boards
. Frank Mariak, DCE's software designer of drivers for the G-Rex,

New ProStationAudio 4.20: enhanced plugins support.
ProStationAudio 4.20 is ready, with enhanced support for ALPS plugins.
Starting with 4.20 it's now possible to operate on plugin
panels even when the timeline is stopped. This is possible
as plugins are now fed by a new auxiliary timebase generator
when the timeline is not running (main timebase generator
in stand-by).
This enhancement is completely transparent to existing
ALPS plugins, just upgrade to 4.20 and all your currently
installed ALPS plugins will now be active continuously.
A side effect of the new scheme is that now you can also
interact with plugins whose insert slots are in "by-pass"
mode (not possible previously).
ProStationAudio 4.20 for AmigaOS is on sale since today,
customers are receiving their free update.

(rumble and dust/scratches) in the signal flow. It features also pick-up
head EQ presets.
The Vinylizer is available for downloading
here.
Tube Pre Amp: energy maximizer with realtime vacuum-tube emulation.
Tube Pre Amp is a new plugin for ProStationAudio
(any version). It allows to increase the signal loudness up to 15dB without
introducing digital clipping.
The legendary warmth of tube-based devices (as opposed to solid
state devices) is well know. The basic cause of the difference
in tube and solid state sound is the weighting of harmoninc
distortion components. When saturating, tubes gently compress
the signal, producing an harmonic series that falls off quickly
in amplitude at higher frequencies.
Another positive effect of tubes is that, due to asymmetrical
saturation (the positive half of a waveform saturates differently
than the negative half), the harmonic series generated by soft
clipping contains only musically healthy even harmonics (octaves
and well-intoned intervals), as opposed to dissonant odd harmonics.
This plugin implements both of the above features.
The Tube Pre Amp is available for downloading
here.

Auditioning and recording from web radio stations is included as well.
Video editors and broadcasting radio operators too can take advantage of
Remix as it can process voiceovers automatically. Just provide a dialogue
track and a background music track: Remix takes care of performing the
voiceover by modulating the music level in realtime according to the
dialogue level (ducking). Add some EQ/compression and have your optimized
voiceover rendered to disk at lightspeed.
Every realtime ALPS plugin is compatible with Remix, giving
access to 64bit EQ, filtering and effects.

July 1999: ProStationAudio v2.00 presented at AmiWest99
ProStationAudio v2.00 was demonstrated at the AmiWest99 show, held in late
July 99 in Sacramento, California. In the picture, Floyd Diebel, director
of the Experimental Media Research Lab in Sacramento, at the AudioLabs booth
(on the right, the monitor displays the ProStationAudio v2.00 GUI).
Floyd presented two technical
seminars (his StationID tutorial for ProStationAudio is available for
downloading in the files area).
The new release introduces realtime rendering, allowing users to create
a mixdown on disk while auditioning the material at the same time.
The mixdown process grabs any sound modification in realtime
including changing the virtual tape speed on the fly for tape-style effects,
editing any plugin parameter on the fly, operating any fader/pan/switch
in the mixing console.
The new Magic Wand tool makes creating ranges a breeze, by automatically
analizying audio waveforms and recognizing music beats, silence, etc...
Just touch any part of a waveform and the Magic Wand creates a perfect loop.
v2.00 can now import MPEG audio, including the popular MP3 format. Imagine
importing a set of MP3 files, overlapping them on the timeline to create
automatic crossfades, adding some realtime effects to EQ or maybe expand
the stereo field, then rendering to CDDA for mastering, all this without
the need of any additional tool than ProStationAudio v2.00.
July 1999: AEQx suite for ProStationAudio shipping
The AEQx suite adds studio-accurate EQ capabilities to ProStationAudio.
- 64bit audio processing for true analog feel
- frequency sweeps from 2Hz to 20000Hz (13 octaves !)
- frequency resolution: 1/12th octave
- autotrimming
The AEQx suite includes parametric, shelf, band & notch, low pass &
hipass filters.
Early AEQx plugins available in the download area.
New delay-based ALPS plugin available
New plugins available in the download area.
| AAD-1: Analog Delay |
| Single-tap scheme with feedback loop. A gentle LP filter in the feedback
loop forces detail loss after several repetitions, much like older analog
units. |
| TimeBox: FripperTronics emulator |
| The dry signal is freezed periodically and mixed with time
reversed replicas. Great for sounds with slow decay such as
guitars, strings, synths. Interesting with vocals too. |

operation (date, time and duration). Reports can be exported as text
for printing.
Additional new features include multi range management (10 store/recall
slots), visual hotspots for objects alignment, optimized screen refreshes
expecially at 1280x1024 and up, new menus for markers, ranges and views,
new hotkeys, fixes.

ProStationAudio prototype unveiled in the US.
A prerelease prototype of ProStationAudio
has been unveiled for the first time on August 26th 1998 in California, US.
A technical meeting was held at Calweb Internet, in Sacramento, thanks
to a collaboration between SACC and AudioLabs. We want to thank Jim Szutowicz,
president of SACC, for his invaluable help in planning the event, and Floyd
Diebel of EMRL for taking care of the advanced technical aspects.
AutoMotion technology included in ProStationAudio.
ProStationAudio now includes a full
implementation of AutoMotion to control the integrated mixing console.
AutoMotion is the new engine for realtime automation of audio faders
and panpots motion by AudioLabs. AutoMotion takes care of recording
and reproducing any action users perform during mixing sessions on a
software-based, realtime, audio console.
The engine supports up to 16 independent stereo channels at once, with
any combination of read, write and overdub modes. Realtime automation
overdubbing with automatic punch in/punch out when grabbing/releasing
faders is supported as well as offline graphical editing.
Automation modes (read, write, over, bypass) can be redefined in realtime
by the operator, independently on each channel, during audio playback.
Announcing ALPS (AudioLabs Plugins System).
AudioLabs announces ALPS, the first professional audio plugins
architecture for AmigaOS. With ALPS, users gain unlimited
possibilities to expand and customize for their specific needs
future applications by AudioLabs.
ProStationAudio , AudioLabs'
new NL-editing system for audio and automation streams, is fully
compatible with the ALPS architecture.
ProStation allows users to pick any ALPS plugins installed on their
systems and assign them to individual NL tracks (track DSP inserts)
or globally to the whole mixdown (master DSP inserts).
The ProStation implementation accepts multiple, chained, ALPS
plugins to build complex custom effects combining multiple DSP
operators.
